The 240 mile cycle ride, now completed, was not without its dramas. The weather was blustery and with occasional showers, which are not the best conditions to cycle in. Day one saw one rider bitterly disappointed as he had to withdraw from the ride due to sciatica. Other than that days one and two were fairly uneventful except the team deciding to cut short their ride on day two and stopped ten miles short of their target destination. This ten miles was caught up on day three. With an extra ten miles to do on day three the team were determined to get a move on and made good time, negotiating quite heavy traffic through Stow on the Wold and Moreton in Marsh. The pace took its toll on one of the riders in the afternoon, and despite a valiant effort to try and carry on he had to admit defeat and withdraw from the ride with an injured knee. However, this brave cyclist has promised to return to his stopping point and finish his ride to Lincoln when he has recovered.
One of the cyclists was involved in a small accident but luckily there was no injury. The ride ended in Lincoln just as it started to rain so everyone got a soaking but I’m sure the relief that the ride was over was greater than worrying about getting wet.
